'(...) The world has come to divide Palestinians between pragmatists and radicals. The pragmatists are the "good Palestinians" because they are willing to accept a truncated territorial compromise, one fashioned largely in accord with Israel's strategic and ideological interests. The radicals are the masked guerrillas and bombers who reject such compromise and seek to shift the balance of power in the Palestinians' favor by reviving the armed struggle. Increasingly, these radicals have been folded into the image of a new global menace, the Muslim terrorist bent on sowing mayhem in European, American, and Israeli cities. Both caricatures - pragmatist and radical - distort the complex textures of Palestinian politics.'
