De Palestijnse vlag was vroeger de vlag van de Arabische nationale beweging. In 1948 is hij tot Palestijnse vlag uitgeroepen. De kleuren gaan terug naar oude tijden: de tijd van de Profeet Mohammed (zwart), de Khawarij (rood), de Omayyaden (wit) en de Fatimiden (groen).

Belgen dienen klacht in tegen Israel wegens aanval op Gaza vloot

Vier Belgische opvarenden van de Vrijheidsvloot naar Gaza die in mei door het israelische leger werd overvallen zijn voornemens een klacht in te dienen. Tengevolge van de aanval lieten 9 Turkse opvarenden het leven, en velen raakten gewond. Op 18 november houden zij een persconferentie in Brussel.

Four Belgian citizens whom were on board of the Freedom Flotilla to Gaza are suing Israel for the brutal attack

 

In May 2010, the Freedom Flotilla set sail to the Gaza Strip with six boats and over 700 passengers. On May 31st, the international aid convoy was brutally attacked by the Israeli army. Nine people died and more than 50 were severely injured by the use of live ammunition.

Fatima El Mourabiti, Inge Neefs, Kenza Isnasni en Griet Deknopper, witnesses and victims of the military assault, demand justice. The passengers have been kidnapped from international waters and were held for 28 hours on the boats where they were ill-treated to be taken to prison and eventually deported to Turkey.

It is essential that all the persons responsible for this attack are judged by the appropriate courts for justice to be done.

The Fact Finding Commission that was appointed by the United Nations calls the Israeli attack on the flotilla unlawful. Its report states the attack was in violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.

The panel concluded that there was "clear evidence" of willful killing, torture or inhuman treatment and willfully causing great suffering or serious injury to body or health – all crimes under the Geneva Convention.

 

Lawyer Joke Callewaert, Fatimah El Mourabiti, Griet Deknopper, Kenza Isnasni and Inge Neefs will be present at the press conference to give detailed information on the complaint and the juridical procedure.
