IWPS zoekt vrijwilligers

De International Women Peace Service is een kleine actieve groep internationale vrijwilligers die vanuit haar vestiging op de Westbank ondersteuning geeft aan de lokale bevolking. Zij opereren vanuit hun eigen huis in Deir Istiya (nabij nederzetting Ariel), zijn zeer goed geïntegreerd in de woongemeenschap daar en ze werken veel samen met lokale bestuurders.

Hun werk is veelzijdig: van het assisteren bij lokale conflicten tussen settlers en de plaatselijke bevolking/lokale autoriteiten, ondersteuning schoolmaterialen, tot en met  hulp bij de olijfoogst. Zij doen actief mee aan lokale demonstraties, observeren en rapporteren over misstanden en ze zijn ook soms  aanwezig bij rechtszaken.

In de praktijk werken zij veel samen met International Solidarity Movement (ISM). IWPS is met opzet een 'woman-only' netwerk om (nog) dichter bij de vrouwen in Palestina te kunnen komen en hen van binnen uit (gemeenschap, familie) te kunnen helpen. De huidige groep vrijwilligers binnen IWPS bestaat uit mensen afkomstig uit Scandinavie, IJsland, Canada, Japan, Nederland en de UK.
Vanwege de Israelische anti-BDS activiteiten is het moeilijker om de huidige vrijwilligers (terug) naar de Westbank te krijgen. En er zijn daarom vrijwilligers nodig om het werk door te zetten. Alle nationaliteiten zijn welkom en Engels is de voertaal. Qua timing en planning: de grootste noden vallen in de maanden oktober en november in verband met de olijfoogst.

International Human Rights Volunteers Needed in Palestine IWPS is currently inviting applications from women who would like to join our team.

We  support Palestinians in their non-violent resistance to the Israeli military occupation and construction of the apartheid wall throughout the occupied West Bank; Provide accompaniment to Palestinian civilians (including farmers during the annual olive harvest); Document and non-violently intervene in human rights abuses; Work to raise awareness of Palestinian issues in our home countries.

Solidarity work often means long and unpredictable days in the field, followed by writing up reports. This makes it even more important to also maintain a happy house as a base, so everyone is expected to help out with daily tasks such as cooking, cleaning and food shopping. It can be stressful to be on the ground and the daily team meetings are opportunities (often over a lovely home cooked dinner)to make sure that any concerns can be addressed and work is divided up equally. Therefore you should be prepared to share your thoughts with the house team and participate in decision making and in resolving any issues.
