NPK-info - 27 maart 2014 Nederlands Palestina Komitee - www.palestina-komitee.nl HERDENKINGSBIJEENKOMST PALESTIJNSE DAG VAN HET LAND TER EXTRA ATTENDERING: UITNODIGING HERDENKINGSBIJEENKOMST PALESTIJNSE DAG VAN HET LAND ZONDAG 30 MAART 14.00 – 17.00 UUR IN VLAARDINGEN Met Knessetlid dr Ahmad Tibi Achtendertig jaar geleden werden in Galilea zes Palestijnen bij een vreedzame demonstratie tegen landonteigeningen doodgeschoten door het Israelische leger. Jaarlijks herdenken Palestijnen over de hele wereld deze schanddaad, maar staan ze ook stil bij de voortdurende landroof; zowel binnen de grenzen van 1948 als in de bezette gebieden van 1967. Zondag 30 maart 2014 organiseert de Palestijnse Gemeenschap in Nederland, samen met het Al Awda netwerk, de Palestijnse Vrouwen Unie, PPMS en het Palestina Komitee Rotterdam, een bijeenkomst in het Vlaardingse wijkcentrum Holy. Met Palestijnse muziek, een tentoonstelling en een heel speciale gast. Dr. Ahmad Tibi is sinds 1999 lid van het Israelische parlement voor de Ta’al partij – de Arabische beweging voor verandering- en fungeert nu als één van de parlementaire ondervoorzitters. Jarenlang was hij ook politiek adviseur van president Arafat. Dr. Tibi is voorstander van een twee staten oplossing, maar een uitgesproken tegenstander van Israel als joodse staat. Hij strijdt voor een staat voor alle burgers, maar ook voor het recht op terugkeer van de Palestijnse vluchtelingen. Op 30 maart zal hij vooral spreken over twee thema’s: de vredesonderhandelingen en Israel als joodse staat. De spreektaal is Engels. De toegang is gratis. FFIPP (Educational network for Human Rights in Palestine/Israel) in collaboration with Palestine Link is delighted to invite you to Amsterdam for the FFIPP Speaking Tour 2014 on EU policies regarding Israel/Palestine. From Paris to Amsterdam, through Bordeaux, Grenoble and Geneva, the Speaking Tour is aimed to raise awareness among students and academic staff about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and to promote a just peace in accordance with International Law. For the last decades, the EU has always, and without respite, condemned the colonization policy in the Occupied Palestinian Territory for 3 major reasons: the Israeli settlements are illegal under international law, they constitute a “potential” obstacle to peace, and they make a two states solution impossible. In fact, there are contradictions in the European policy towards Israel. Indeed, while the constructions of illegal settlements continue its expansion, the EU prefers not to take any coercive measures. The oncoming European Parliament elections are here to remind ourselves the rise of the EU on the international field, promoting human rights as a motivation for its diplomatic relations. Considering that, one could wonder how the EU, gaining power on the international scale, deals with one of the most acute situation of our times: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and all its counterparts. From ex-colonial power to present commercial relations and development aid, the EU has a very special relationship with both nations, which is open to criticism and debate. The conference will address, among other issues, the role of the European Union in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the case of businesses invested in illegal settlements, labelling settlement products and EU’s commitments to respect and promote human rights. For this purpose, we are glad to welcome: Susan ROCKWELL Susan Rockwell is a member of Mattin Group, a Ramallah-based NGO. She is currently working with the institutions of the European Union, trying to convince the latter to apply a differentiated economic treatment for Israeli products from Israel and from the Occupied Territories. Since 1995, Mattin Group has led a dialogue with the European Commission, the European Parliament and member States examining the problems that have arisen from Israel’s application of the EU-Israel Association Agreement to the territories it occupied since 1967 and possible solutions. Wesam AHMAD Wesam Ahmad is a member of Al-Haq, a Palestinian NGO established in 1979 in order to promote human rights and rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT), from an international law perspective. It seeks both to document and address the wrongs done to the individual and collective rights of Palestinians, by using international law and international judiciary mechanisms. The organisation has special consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. The lectures will be followed by debates with Dutch politicians and representatives of the VVD and PvdA, both of which are running for the EU parliament elections. The names of the representatives will be confirmed very soon.
