DRING ER BIJ UW EUROPARLEMENTARIËRS OP AAN OM DE NIEUWE RICHTLIJNEN M.B.T. ISRAELISCHE DEELNAME AAN EUROPESE PROJECTEN TE RESPECTEREN
 
ISRAELS ILLEGALE NEDERZETTINGEN BEHOREN UITGESLOTEN TE WORDEN VAN ONDERZOEKS-OVEREENKOMSTEN TUSSEN DE EU EN ISRAEL

Het NPK (Nederlands Palestina Komitee) roept een ieder dringend op om deze Europese campagne (*) te steunen.
Doel is ervoor te zorgen dat de nieuwe richtlijnenen, bedoeld om de illegale Israelische nederzettingen van EU-Israelische overeenkomsten uit te sluiten, niet worden afgezwakt.
 
De zaak is urgent aangezien op zeer korte termijn Horizon 2020 aan de orde komt. Horizon 2020 is een nieuw EU-raamwerk voor grootschalige onderzoeksprojecten i.s.m. met bedrijven en instellingen uit niet EU-landen; dat betreft dus ook projecten met Israel. Israel en de VS leggen momenteel enorme druk op de EU om de richtlijnen af te zwakken. Voorkomen moet worden dat Israels illegale nederzettingen alsnog gaan meeprofiteren.
 
De tijd is kort want op 21 oktober worden de richtlijnen in de EU besproken. Vandaar dat nu door (bijna) heel Europa deze campagne wordt gevoerd, zodat met een muisklik  burgers uit ieder land in één keer al hun euro-parlementariërs een brief hierover kunnen sturen.
 
Onze eis is dat de nieuwe richtlijnen de illegale nederzettingen zullen uitsluiten, en tot op de letter toegepast zullen worden, ondanks de enorme druk door Israel en de VS om die toepassing af te zwakken.

Tell your MEPs to support the new guidelines on Israel’s participation in EU programs.
 
In July 2013, the European Commission announced new guidelines that aim to prevent Israeli projects in illegal Israeli settlements from receiving research grant funding and prevent Israeli companies and institutions that operate inside illegal Israeli settlements from participating in financial instruments such as loans. The new guidelines were broadly welcomed by Palestinian and European civil society organisations.
But now Israel and its supporters are pressuring the EU to drop the new guidelines. There is a very real risk that the Commission will cave in to Israeli pressure and decide to continue the funding of, and support for, Israeli projects and organisations based in occupied Palestinian Territory. This would send a dangerous message that the EU lacks the political will to pressure Israel to end its war crimes and comply with international law.
